Outline
This project team employs participatory action research and develops teachers' training programs on ESD to be chiefly operated by local residents in Asia.
Projects
Participatory action research in Asia: This project initially focuses on rural areas of Thailand and compiles participatory development manuals. It also aims at introducing the curricula and methodologies of Japanese development education to the educators of NGOs and rural communities in Northern Thailand seeking the possibility to bring them into the communities. The participatory development manuals compiled based on these research outcomes will also be widely spread to other Asian countries to broaden the research network of the region.

ESD research network in Asia: This project undertakes data gathering for the good practices of ESD and environmental education curricula in Asian countries. For the time being, it will enhance the research network in Asian, namely based upon "the Curricula of the Pin" developed by environmental educators in Northern Thailand and Japanese environmental education.
Feedback to the Practical field
Producing the manuals of participatory development and capacity building for educators: This project team will develop the participatory development manuals for educators to improve the living conditions and advance environmental conservation to be operated by local residents in communities, and deepen the research association with the similar practices in other Asian countries to distribute the research outcomes.

Publishing ESD handbook: This project team aims at publishing a "GLOCAL Handbook" to link the social issues in Japan to global challenges. It will also develop the curricula of environmental and development issues to be taught at schools in Japan and other Asian countries and make a handbook of it.

Symposiums and workshops: The research outcomes will be broadly disseminated to public through symposiums and workshops offering opportunities to mingle for researchers and practitioners.
