The research on current ESD status and its challenges: Conservation to maintain sustainable marine environment at the local level is a critical issue in Pacific region. For this reason, it is called on in this region to promote ESD activities working in close collaboration with the industrial countries and other Asian nations besides the residents of the site, because of their considerable impact on the Pacific environment through global warming and marine pollution. From this perspective, this project team will undertake surveys about the current ESD status and its challenges in South-Pacific region through its fieldwork focused on the issues of environment and development closely tied with the governments, international research institutions, and NGOs in the region.
Research on international cooperation for ESD: Besides reinforcing the network with developed countries, it is also essential for the South-Pacific region to establish the international cooperative relationships with various organizations for international cooperation especially considering the insular geographic features of this region. This project team will research on the potential of international cooperation activities in this region working together with various institutions for international cooperation. |

Developing capacity-building programs for ESD educators and trainers: Based on the outcomes from research activities, we develop capacity-building programs for ESD educators and trainers offering workshops at research fields to incorporate wide range of views of them in cooperation with various organizations.
Policy making to promote ESD: We engage in policy making for strategically promoting ESD at the local level in collaboration with countries in the region and international institutions based on the findings from the research activities.
Networking with supporting organizations: Various organizations have made their efforts to contribute in the field of environment and development for the large area of Asia-Pacific region. However, an effective network between them has not been well established yet. Solving this issue is one of the keys to pervade ESD activity across this region with international cooperation. ESDRC makes the best of its network with organizations in a wide range of fields to consolidate the effective network with them in this region. |
